Kothagudem: At least a dozen passengers sustained injuries when a private bus overturned at Gattudem village in Dammapeta mandal early on Monday morning.

Police said 10 passengers suffered minor injuries, while two sustained serious injuries, reportedly due to brake failure at a curve about 20 kilometres from Ashwaraopet. The injured were shifted to a hospital in Sathupalli.

As many as 43 passengers were travelling in the bus at the time of the mishap. The bus, belonging to KVR Travellers, was heading to Rajahmundry from Hyderabad and was allegedly registered in Arunachal Pradesh, according to initial reports.

It was alleged that RTA officials had shown negligence in preventing vehicles registered in other States from carrying passengers in violation of norms and road safety rules. Passengers demanded stern action against illegal service operators.
