Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday informed that the prestigious Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project(PRLIS) would be commissioned by December 2026.

Replying to a query raised by BRS member Naveen Kumar Reddy in the Legislative Council on Wednesday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the 18 package work of the PRLIS up to Udandapur reservoir were in progress and that the Unit-I of Stage-I pumping station was commissioned in September last year. The Stage-II, III and IV pumping stations were almost completed and ready for commissioning, he said.

Stating that an amount of Rs. 32,305 crore had been spent so far on the project and that the total ayacut covered under the project was approximately 12.30 lakh acres, he said about Rs. 33,201 crore was required to complete the balance works of the project.

The necessary clearances and approvals from the Central Water Commission(CWC) and union Environment and Forest Ministry for the PRLIS project were under process and the project was expected to complete by December 2026, he said.
BRS MLC K Kavitha criticised the Congress government for its inability to stop the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government on the Krishna River. She took strong objection to the State government appointing Aditya Nath Das, former chief secretary and former irrigation special chief secretary of Andhra Pradesh, as advisor to the irrigation department. Das as Irrigation secretary played an important role in starting the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme and the Congress government appointing him as advisor was not in a good taste, she said.
