Hyderabad: Monsoon is here and raindrops have been pouring for a few days now. After the scorching heat of the summers, rains bring in the much needed relief. While many concentrate on staying healthy during the shower season, many of us forget to protect our homes.

Although, everyone enjoys rains, continuous downpours can can create several issues. Monsoon can be a nightmare for a homeowner, bringing maximum damage to your walls causing leaks, mold, fungus, cracks and chipping paint.

The most significant thing that easily gets affected during the monsoon is the roof of your building. Seepages are a common thing to occur. Make sure you check every corner of your roof and ensure there is no crack.

Similar to the roof, walls are also prone to cracks, which should be filled with waterproof mortar and sealed for good. While at the task, also check the joints of rainwater pies to safeguard against any leakage.

One of the worst nightmares of monsoons is a blocked drainage system. Excess water passage, food particles stuck in, dry leaves are usually common causes of clogging. To make sure there isn’t any loophole in the drainage area, you should hire a plumber.

When it rains, wooden floors and doors absorb more moisture, you can apply wax to it and prevent that extra moisture. Once it starts raining, move the wooden furniture a little away from the walls to keep the passive moisture away.

One thing that many people leave unattended is the house wiring and plug points. Any faulty wire in the building can be dangerous and needs to be fixed immediately. Make this a priority, and check every electric point before hand.

Lastly, ensure that your indoor plants are shifted to the balcony of garden. Due to high humidity in the environment, these plants tend to retain more moisture and add to the already humid condition within your apartment. This can attract several kinds of insects inside your house. Shifting the plants to an open space will not only prevents the in-house moisture level but also keep your plants healthy.
