Visakhapatnam: Leaders of Visakhapatnam apartment residents’ welfare associations on Tuesday held a demonstration in front of Alluri Seetharama Raju statue in Seethammadhara, protesting against the move to hike property tax, and changing the system of levying the tax from annual rental value to capital value of the property.
General Secretary of Visakhapatnam Apartments Residents’ Welfare Association (VARWA) B.B. Ganesh said that the property tax would be hiked five to six times if the contents of the recent draft notification issued by Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation
(GVMC) were to be implemented.
He demanded that the rental value system should be continued and sought a debate on the issues of property tax and garbage tax in the GVMC council to take a people’s friendly decision.
