Hyderabad: From students, unemployed, activists, to teachers, hundreds of protesters continued to hit the city roads even as the Assembly session was underway on Thursday.
After SFI and AISF Telangana student activists protested and rocked the Assembly over various issues in the education sector on Wednesday, the Democratic Youth Federation of India Telangana called for ‘Chalo Assembly’.
Despite police carrying out preventive illegal arrests across all districts on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, DYFI activists managed to reach the Assembly and tried to lay siege to it. Police personnel detained the protesters and shifted them to various police stations.
DYFI state president Kota Ramesh and secretary Anaganti Venkatesh said the Congress party in its election manifesto had promised notifications for 2 lakh vacancies, a job calendar, Rs 4,000 per month as unemployment allowance and establishment of a Youth Commission for unemployed youth. However, even after 29 months in power, the government failed to implement these promises.
Around 2 lakh government posts remain vacant across the state, yet no notifications have been issued, they said, accusing the government of playing with the lives of unemployed youth.
At Osmania University, several of Unemployed JAC members and DYFI activists, including JAC State Convenor RL Murthy, were detained as they tried to march towards the Assembly.
Several unemployed youths were taken into preventive custody ahead of their ‘Chalo Assembly’, a protest march, over delay in releasing the recruitment notifications. Sensing trouble from the unemployed, police barged into the hostels and libraries in the city and detained several youths on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. Arguments ensued as the police forcefully picked them up.
