Hyderabad: Refuting the Congress government’s claim that no ration cards were issued during the BRS regime, BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan on Saturday accused Civil Supplies Commissioner DS Chouhan and Hyderabad District Collector Dasari Harichandana of violating constitutional norms and service rules to serve the political interests of the Congress-led Telangana government.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan along with BRS MLA Mutha Gopal and leaders Anand Goud and Bommera Ramamurthy, Shravan alleged that the two officials acted like “servants” of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and openly criticised the previous government while participating in a ration card distribution event at Sevalal Banjara Bhavan in Banjara Hills.
He said their remarks were politically motivated and factually incorrect, amounting to a breach of administrative neutrality. “They behaved as if wearing Congress scarves,” he said, accusing them of deliberately trying to tarnish the BRS’s image.
Countering their claim, Shravan said 6.47 lakh ration cards were issued during the 10-year BRS regime under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. He termed their comments “blatant lies” and said he had confronted Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar at the same event but refrained from escalating the issue out of respect for the beneficiaries present.
Shravan added that senior BRS leaders, including KT Rama Rao and Gangula Kamalakar, had already clarified the party’s record on ration card distribution in the Assembly. Alleging large-scale irregularities under the Congress government, he claimed that while two lakh applications had been submitted, fewer than 50,000 ration cards were issued, with many being processed through brokers while genuine requests, including those from MLAs, were ignored.
He demanded disciplinary action against Chouhan and Harichandana for violating service conduct rules and said the BRS would lodge complaints with the Chief Secretary and the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) in New Delhi.
The party would also raise the issue in Parliament, he said. “They must apologise for their misconduct and the political damage caused to the opposition,” Shravan asserted.
