Khammam: Everyone in society must remember and honour the sacrifices of freedom fighters for Indian independence, stated the District Collector RV Karnan.
The Indian freedom struggle should be a source of inspiration to the people, especially to the youth to lead the nation towards progress. The sacrifices of freedom fighters would always remain in the hearts of Indians, he said.
Collector Karnan along with Commissioner of Police (CP), Tafseer Iqubal flagged off ‘Freedom Run’ at Lakaram tank bund here on Wednesday and took part in the run commemorating the 75th anniversary (semi-sesquicentennial) of Indian Independence next year.
The ‘Freedom Run’ was organised at the directions of the State and Central governments to make children and youth of the current generation aware of the invaluable sacrifices made by many people to achieve freedom for the country, he said.
The Collector and the CP have administered the oath of Jalashakti Abhiyan and Poshan Abhiyan on the occasion. They urged the public to make efficient use of water and make efforts to increase ground water level.
Karnan said Poshan Pakhwada was being celebrated from 16th to 31st March to address nutritional challenges. Activities were being organised to create awareness among women and teenage girls in order to rectify malnutrition, anemia and other health issues.
At Kothagudem, the District Collector MV Reddy and Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt took part in ‘Freedom Run’ at Yellandu cross roads along with officials and public. They called upon the people to recall the sacrifices made by freedom fighters to free India from the British rule.
The State government was planning to organise several events across the state for the next 75 weeks culminating in the 75th anniversary of Independence Day in 2022, the Collector informed.
