Hyderabad: Even after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu dismissed the hype around investment agreements signed at the World Economic Forum, Davos as a myth, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday continued to claim that the State signing agreements worth Rs 1.8 lakh crore at Davos was an achievement in itself. This was even as Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu said he did not consider the investments a great victory and said it could be considered so only when the agreements were implemented and jobs were provided.
As for Revanth Reddy, while his former political guru said the Davos summit was all about networking, the Chief Minister at a press conference here on Tuesday continued to insist that apart from attracting investments, it was a platform to learn about the worldwide industry practices and policies adopted by other countries.
“These agreements reflect the confidence of MNCs and other industries in Telangana government,” he said, adding that apart from sanctioning administrative approvals for the agreements signed at Davos, land allocations were being made to the companies.
“In terms of Per Capita Income, Telangana leads in the country. The State government is striving to make Telangana a one-trillion-dollar economy,” Revanth Reddy said.
Meanwhile, in sharp contrast to the Chief Minister’s claims of investment agreements signed at Davos as an achievement for the Telangana government, Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu had another point of view.
“We are not considering this as a great victory. This will be a victory only when the agreements are implemented and jobs are provided to the youth,” he said.
When asked about the conversion rate of the agreements signed last year, the Industries Minister said the government did not want to get into any sort of criticism and was optimistic. “We will definitely share the comparative statements on the investments secured by the previous government and the current government in 2028. I appeal to the opposition parties not to create hurdles in welfare and development,” he said.
On the criticism over signing agreements with Telangana and Hyderabad-based companies at Davos, the Industries Minister said the companies had evolved at the international level and were signing agreements with other States and countries as well.
“If the companies express willingness to invest in Telangana, should we oppose it? Will the agreements be valid if they are signed at Ameerpet?” he asked.
Chief Minister’s blunders go viral
Meanwhile, a few blunders by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy during the press conference went viral on different social media platforms. Explaining about the investments, the Chief Minister, meaning to say Amazon Web Services, ended up saying ‘Amazon Web Series’ had announced investments to the tune of Rs.60,000 crore in the State.
Similarly, the Chief Minister said an agreement was signed with Singapore Information Technology Education, when actually it was signed with Singapore Institute of Technical Education.
