Amaravati: The scheduled meeting between Cinematography Minister Perni Nani and noted film director Ram Gopal Varma concluded here on Monday.
Later, addressing media persons, the Minister said he had told RGV what all he wanted to say. The movie ticket rates were fixed in accordance with the Cinematography Act and the government decisions were according to the law. “Our government will not trouble anyone and the laws are the same for all,” he stated.
He pointed out that a committee was already set up to discuss the issue and further decisions would be taken according to its recommendations. He also said RGV’s suggestions would be taken to the notice of the committee. Due to COVID situation, cinema halls would be allowed only 50 per cent of the occupancy, he said and sought the cooperation of all the concerned.
RGV, who spoke to media persons after meeting the Minister, said that the talks were concluded satisfactorily. They had primarily discussed on five important aspects, and the most important was the rates of movie tickets. “I opposed reduction of rates of movie tickets and as a man of 30 years’ experience in film world, brought to his notice what is happening in the industry. He also mentioned some aspects and I will discuss them with our people in the industry. I feel that the issue will be resolved. I told him that the industry will lose badly if the movie ticket rates are reduced. I gave my opinion as a film producer. I did not put forth any demands. We will discuss all issues that have come up during discussion and the government will take the final decision,” he said.
RGV also said he did not agree with the view that the government had reduced movie ticket rates to harass them politically. “But the government’s decision will impact all stars and movies. I don’t think the government has taken it only to target Pawan Kalyan and Balakrishna. It is free to take action on evasion of tax or fraud in collections. I am fully satisfied with the talks today,” he revealed.
