Road accident becomes social issue: DGP
DGP B Shivadhar Reddy said road accidents have become a social issue and stressed the need for public awareness on traffic rules. He urged police to strengthen the Arrive-Alive programme and improve efforts to tackle cybercrime

Peddapalli: Stating that road accidents have become a social issue, Director General of Police B Shivadhar Reddy emphasized the need to create awareness about traffic rules among the public in a big way to check accidents.
He also emphasized that the slogan “Vegamkanna Pranam Minna” (life is more precious than speed) must reach each and every person. For this purpose, people must be involved in the Arrive-Alive programme to be held in the last week of every month, he instructed officials.
The DGP, who was here to inaugurate armed reserve police quarters in Godavarikhani on Sunday, conducted a review meeting with police officers from Peddapalli and Mancherial zones at the Ramagundam police commissionerate office on Sunday. He also emphasized the need to continue the prestigious Arrive-Alive programme taken up by the state government in an agitation mode.
Stating that it was necessary to reduce deaths occurring due to road accidents, he said that people should be educated about traffic rules besides taking measures to check accidents. People should be educated by conducting awareness programmes and meetings in towns and villages.
Besides giving special training in defensive driving, wearing of helmets and seatbelts must be implemented. Negligence towards traffic rules would lead to threat to life, he opined.
Sharing the experiences of the family members of road accident victims with others would also help educate people. Talking about the crime situation in the state, the DGP said that new kinds of crimes were taking place and criminals are involved in cybercrimes by utilising technology. So, each and every police officer must be aware of cybercrimes and create awareness among the public.
After inaugurating the police quarters, the DGP asked the police to strengthen the policing system further besides providing facilities to police personnel.
Multi zone IG Chandrashekhar Reddy, Commissioner of Police Ambar Kishore Jha (Ramagundam) and Gaush Alam (Karimnagar), Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar (Jagtial) and Mahesh B Gite (Rajanna-Sircilla), TGPICS chairman Gurnath Reddy and others participated in the programme.
