Roads cut off as heavy rains lash Medak, Sangareddy
Medak and Sangareddy districts faced severe disruption as heavy rains caused streams to overflow, washing away roads and submerging low-lying areas. Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations were affected, while authorities issued high alert amid predictions of continued rainfall.

Sangareddy: Several roads were cut off across Medak and Sangareddy districts as streams overflowed at low-level bridges on Tuesday night. In many areas, roads were washed away as streams swelled to full capacity.
The road connecting Lakshmapur to Lakshmapur railway station in Ramayampet mandal was swept away following heavy rains and flood inflows.
Meanwhile, Singur reservoir received inflows of 40,000 cusecs from upstream around midnight. Irrigation authorities released 22,500 cusecs downstream by lifting two crest gates in addition to operating the power plant.
Rainfall was intense in Medak district, with Pedda Shankarampet recording 204 mm, Tekmal 200 mm, and Ramayampet 180 mm. Sangareddy district recorded 176 mm in the past 24 hours till 8.30 am on Wednesday. Normal life was severely affected across the erstwhile Medak district as overflowing streams cut off road connectivity.
Medak district registered an average rainfall of 116 mm, while Sangareddy and Siddipet districts recorded 65 mm and 36 mm respectively. Low-lying areas were inundated and standing crops were submerged in floodwaters across several mandals.
The continuous rainfall also dampened Vinayaka Chavithi celebrations. With the IMD predicting further heavy rainfall in the region, officials have put citizens on high alert.
