Hyderabad: Robotic and autonomous technology making advances and getting to work in the past year. Read on how robotics made things easy for humans.
Pazzi (Paris, Franc)
Pizza bot at work
The Pazzi robots are able to prepare a pizza in 45 seconds, can bake six pizzas at a time and produce 80 pizzas per hour. The robots are fully enclosed behind a wall of glass and there are no humans helping out. Orders can be placed via web app or touchscreen kiosk at the restaurant.
Xavier (Singapore)
Dishing out social behaviour instructions at a shopping and residential district.Called “Xavier,” the robots are equipped with seven cameras that enable them to detect “undesirable social behaviour,” for instance if you incorrectly park your bike, if you smoke in an unauthorised area or if social distancing is not being respected.
War robot (Versailles, France)
On display at the first edition of the aero-terrestrial robotics day
FloraBot (Boston, US)
Flower arranging at the Robot block Party
FloraBot challenges anyone to identify which flower arrangement was done by hand and which one was done by robots these days. While a robot does not possess the artificial intelligence (AI) to design a floral arrangement, but once it is taught how to design, it can produce that design 24/7 non-stop.
Robot waiter (Mosul, Iraq)
Serving customers in a restaurant
A unique resto-café has opened in Mosul, serving Western dishes to its customers using robots, to convey a clear message to the world that the city has overcome war and destruction. The White Fox resto-café is located on the left side of the city includes 60% of Mosul’s population.
Dancing bots (Hamburg, Germany)
Synchronised dancing robots at the ITS World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems.
Robot dog
(Indianapolis Motor Speedway, US)
Boston Dynamics’ robot dog holds starting flag at the Indy Autonomous Challenge race. On October 23, race cars at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway zipped around the track at high speeds with no drivers as part of an international contest for the fastest self-driving car. Above, Spot, the robot dog built by the Boston Dynamics company, waves the starting flag.
Alpha Mini
(Maru Nursery School Seoul, South Korea)
Robot teaching assistant for kids aged 3 – 6
The “Alpha Mini” is just 24.5 centimetres tall and can dance, lead sing-a-longs, recite stories and even teach kung-fu moves as children mimic its push-ups and one-legged balances. The robot’s eyes wink and blink — and its pupils become heart-shaped during conversation. With a camera on its helmet, it takes photos that are instantly sent to a tablet for viewing. The robots are being trialled in 300 Seoul nurseries and childcare centres, with the government recommending the programme for children aged three to five.
Snag (Stanford University, US)
Bird-inspired drone able to land on a variety of perches . First SNAG drone that can perch on trees like a bird has 3D-printed falcon legs. Using biomimicry to replicate how birds land on tree branches and balance there, Stanford researchers have managed to create SNAG, the Stereotyped Nature-Inspired Aerial Grasper, which can fly like a quadcopter but land like a peregrine falcon. SNAG is not your average drone but a robotic bird that can grasp branches of various forms and textures with its 3D-printed legs, motors for muscles, and fishing line for tendons.
