Hyderabad: The book ‘Roots to Fruits-The Journey of a Development Banker’ written by Dr B Yerram Raju is an autobiography that intertwines the author’s personal and professional life, depicting his journey from a village in Andhra Pradesh to his involvement in various institutions of national importance, primarily in the areas of rural development and banking.

The book published by BS Publications, Hyderabad, not only promises to be the author’s trip down memory lane but also a guide to youth on what can be achieved by sheer perseverance, dedication and will power. He expresses in his book that hindsight is not a guide to the future and living in the present needs a strong nerve, better composure, and patience. The book also offers a great source of inspiration and learning to every development banker.

Written in two parts, the first part of the book covers his childhood, influencers (teachers, friends, and bureaucrats), and his three-decade journey into development banking. The second volume constitutes the remaining one third of his life, including his foray into the corporate world and entrepreneurial spirit. He confesses that several fascinating thoughts were coming to his mind while scripting the book, but he withheld those temptations as that could lead to a longer script.

Dr Raju who dedicated the book to his wife and three daughters, shares how he stood by his principles that were learnt both when he was growing up and during many phases of his career and carving out his post-retirement life involving himself in several initiatives including the revival of MSMEs through the unique concept of industrial health clinic. He thanked K Manicka Raj, Commissioner of Industries (2014-16) and Telangana Industries Minister KT Rama Rao for enabling the establishment of Telangana Industrial Health Clinic.

His autobiography presents an authoritative and interesting readable account of his value system and achievements in a time-lined tale covering his academics, family and career with a detailed note on specific life events in a natural and honest way. He also expresses his joy over winning the title ‘International Man of the Year 1991’ by the International Biographical Society, Cambridge.

Dr Yerram Raju who was born on 5th December 1941 turns 80 today, and with his 56-years in banking, feels it is his duty towards the society to script the course of development banking through his book for the future generation to see its virtue.
