Hyderabad: A small idea or inspiration or incident is all it takes for someone to plunge into action and take their passion forward.
There was one such touching incident in Sudha Kesavaraju’s life too, which inspired her to take the initiative of providing free food to the needy. Visiting hospitals and seeing people in distress made her start the Samtrupti Foundation.
Moved by her own experience, Sudha, who visited NIMS Hospital for somebody she knew, decided to provide proper and hygienic food to needy people who come there from different parts of India for various medical needs. While they are already under stress about the ailment and the treatment, neither the patients nor the attenders get to eat proper meals sometimes.
Having observed their plight, Sudha started a ‘one-time meal’ initiative through which she feeds around 150 people every day. “I have seen people suffering here, as they come from different places and backgrounds, and some of them can’t even afford a single meal, which breaks me down sometimes,” says Sudha, who started this initiative in 2017.
“We cook fresh food every morning with the help of two girls and also supply fresh fruits to patients who require them. We start distributing the food ourselves from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm every day. Initially, we used to provide food only for patients, but later we started giving it to attenders too,” adds Sudha, who runs her Foundation with help of her brother and sisters who are in the USA and contribute money to help the needy.
It’s not just her siblings but also a few friends who are supporting and making the foundation stronger.
“I should thank my friends and family who supported me. They were worried in the pandemic time but I didn’t want to stop serving the food, as I was the only source a few months ago for many people. And that gave me endless satisfaction,” smiles this Good Samaritan.
Sudha did not stop with food donation but is also helping people with blood donation and medicines. Those who are interested to join her and volunteering in helping the needy can do so on her website: https://www.samtrupti.org/.
