Students being educated about soil health conservation at ZPHS Kothlapur in Sangareddy district
Sangareddy: The agriculture department conducted a sensitisation programme for students of ZPHS, Kothlapur on Tuesday teaching them about collecting samples from agricultural fields in the village.
These will be taken to a soil health lab in Sangareddy town where the trained students will be asked to analyse the soil samples.
Speaking to Telangana Today, District Agriculture Officer (DAO) K Shivaprasad said the excess use of fertilisers and pesticides was harming the soil health. He further said that the government wanted to educate the younger generation on soil health conservation so that the younger generation could take care of soil.
Agriculture Officers Ambika Soni, Venkatalakshmi, Headmaster Vijay Kumar and others participated in educative session.
The training, organised by the Government of India, is being given to provide first hand experience in soil conservation to the younger generation as part of the school soil health programme.
The government decided to engage some students in 1,000 schools across India including students from 44 schools in Telangana. The ZPHS Kothlapur is the only school in Sangareddy district to participate in the programme.
