Hyderabad: The Transport department has officially launched ‘Sarathi’ services across all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in Hyderabad. Initially introduced on a pilot basis at RTO in Trimulgherry in Secunderabad, the service was recently expanded to RTO in Khairatabad last week. It has now been rolled out citywide.
The Sarathi portal, developed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, enables citizens to access a range of transport-related services online. Through this, motorists can now update their driving licence information, renew licences, and request address changes from any location, without the need to physically visit transport offices. A fixed fee is applicable for each online service.
Transport Department officials said the online system aims to reduce footfall at RTOs, eliminate long queues, and enhance transparency.
‘Vahan’ services soon:
In a further digital upgrade, the ‘Vahan’ platform is expected to become operational in all transport offices within the next two months.
Once launched, new vehicle registrations will be directly handled by dealers and digitally entered into the Vahan database. This move is expected to streamline the vehicle registration process and minimize paperwork for vehicle buyers.
Once Vahan is fully functional, the entire registration process will be completed at the dealership level itself. Customers will receive registered vehicles without having to approach the RTOs separately.
Simultaneously, efforts are in progress to integrate the M-Parivahan mobile application to offer citizens access to digital vehicle documents, driving licences, challan payments, and other transport-related information on their smartphones.
However, there have been some instances of the Sarathi platform facing technical glitches. Several users have reported difficulties in uploading documents and photographs during the online application process.
