Hyderabad: Microsoft chairman Satya Nadella, Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and Neal Mohan of YouTube are among the most influential global leaders of Indian origin, according to the HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024.

Leena Nair, global CEO of Chanel, is among the most influential women of Indian origin.

The cumulative value of the companies led by global Indians stands at USD 10 trillion. The top 10 individuals account for nearly 73% of the total value on the list.

Neha Narkhede (Confluent), Anjali Sud (Tubi, an over-the-top content platform), Yamini Rangan (HubSpot, a customer relationship management platform), Leena Nair (Chanel) and Revathi Advaithi (Flex) collectively oversee companies with a cumulative value of USD 436 billion — greater than the GDP of Malaysia.

San Francisco has the highest number of entrants on the list, with 37 individuals residing in the city. In the UK, London accounts for the largest group with eight entrants, while Dubai leads the Middle East with six residents on the list.

Spanning generations from 27-year-old Tanay Tandon to 84-year-old Gopichand Hinduja, the Hurun list includes 57 per cent first-generation entrepreneurs, 41 per cent professionals, 2 per cent inheritors and 12 women leaders.

The list also features 101 NRIs (79 per cent self-made). LN Mittal and family tops the rich list with Rs 1,84,500 crore, followed by Gopichand Hinduja and family at Rs 1,78,600 crore.

While 57% of the leaders are first-generation entrepreneurs, professionals and inheritors make up the rest.

According to the list, software and services has emerged as the largest industry with 87 entrants, followed by financial services with 24 representatives, and healthcare, contributing 21 notable figures.

IIT Madras leads as the top undergraduate alma mater with 14 entrants, while Stanford University dominates postgraduate choices with 20 global leaders.

The list includes 226 CEOs, Managing Directors, and Founders from 200 companies, all based outside of India.

“The HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024 highlights that 62 per cent of leaders studied in India, with almost a quarter of the list graduating from the IITs underscoring the importance of quality Indian education in shaping global business leaders,” Anas Rahman Junaid, founder and chief researcher, Hurun India, stated in a release.

Nearly 73 global unicorns have been founded by the Indian diaspora.
