SC, ST Commission chief warns against attacks on Dalits, tribals in Telangana
The SC and ST Commission Chairman Bakki Venkataiah visited Sajjapur village in Sangareddy after the demolition of Dalit resident Byagari Ramulu’s house. He condemned the police for siding with perpetrators and assured strict action against erring officials.

Sangareddy: SC and ST Commission Chairman Bakki Venkataiah warned that attacks on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes would not be tolerated in Telangana.
The Chairman visited Sajjapur village for the second time in the past few days following the demolition of the house of Dalit man Byagari Ramulu in Kohir mandal by local officials and the newly elected sarpanch. Commission member Rambabu Nayak accompanied him during the visit.
The Chairman and the Commission member presented a cheque for Rs 25,000 to the victim’s family and laid the foundation stone for a new house at the same site where the earlier structure was demolished.
Speaking on the occasion on Tuesday, Venkataiah accused the police department of supporting those who demolished Ramulu’s house instead of standing by the poor victims. He warned that action would certainly be initiated against such irresponsible officers.
Asking officials and the police to ensure that such incidents were not repeated in the district, the SC and ST Commission Chairman said any attempt to disturb peace in villages would not be tolerated. He assured that the Commission would extend support to the victim’s family until they received justice.
Zaheerabad MLA K Manik Rao, Zaheerabad RDO D Devuja, Deputy Director of the Social Welfare department Akhilesh Reddy, MPDO Bharathi, Tahsildar Supriya and others were present.
