Hyderabad: The Ministry of Defence has sanctioned Rs 304.62 crore as ‘Grant-in-Aid’ to 50 deficit Cantonment Boards across the country, including the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB). As per the orders, the SCB received Rs 2.82 crore to be spent on various infrastructure works and welfare schemes.
Amit Kumar, Deputy Director General (Cantonments) at the Directorate General Defence Estates, Delhi, issued orders to the Principal Directors of the Central, Western, Eastern, Northern, South-Western and Southern Commands, and the chief executive officers of all Cantonment Boards, on the sanctioning of the ‘Grant-in-Aid’ amount.
Meanwhile, Sanki Ravinder, secretary of an SCB-based NGO, Cantonment Vikas Manch, in a statement said it was disappointing and unjustified that the Secunderabad Cantonment Board, recognised as the largest population cantonment in the country, was allocated only Rs 2,82,39,726 as ‘Grant-in-Aid’.
