SCCL management asks workers to abstain from general strike

Kothagudem: The SCCL management has appealed to workers to stay away from the nationwide general strike called on Wednesday by different trade unions against the anti-labour policies of the Centre.

Company Director (P&P) K Venkateshwarlu and Director (PA&W) Gautam Potru held a meeting with general managers of all the areas through video conference on Tuesday to review the steps taken to ensure that coal production and transportation were not disrupted.


The officials explained that most of the demands of the strike were not related to Singareni workers and could not be addressed by the management. The problems within the scope of the company can be resolved through discussions.

Due to various reasons, the company was already behind in the coal production and overburden removal targets set for this financial year. If there were a strike for one day, the company would lose Rs 76 crore, and the workers would lose wages of about Rs 13.07 crore.

As of July 1 in this financial year, the company achieved 16.26 million tonnes of coal production. Of the production target of 72 million tonnes set for the financial year 2025-26, only 22.4 per cent of the production was achieved.

Therefore, the workers should abstain from the general strike and attend duties to work towards achieving the production target for the financial year 2025-26, the directors said. They told the general managers of all areas to prevent any hindrance in the production and transportation of coal.
