Hyderabad: A two-day seminar on ‘Geo-Exploration for Critical Minerals and Precious Metals’ commenced at Tagore Auditorium in Osmania University (OU) with insightful talks on geophysical exploration and its substantial impact on the economy.
Organised by the Association of Exploration Geophysicists (AEG) in collaboration with the Department of Geophysics, Osmania University College of Science on Thursday, the seminar also featured an exhibition, showcasing innovative technologies, cutting-edge research, and industry applications, demonstrating the diversity and advancements in geophysics.
Participating in the event, Department of Earth Sciences, former secretary, Prof. Harsh K Gupta emphasized the significance of geophysical exploration and its substantial impact on the global economy. He highlighted the crucial role of critical metals and precious minerals in driving economic growth and development.
Speakers in the event spoke about the importance of government organizations such as ONGC, GSI, NGRI, AMD, and other central government earth science institutions in global critical mineral and precious metals research and exploration. They highlighted the significance of these organizations in driving global development and encouraged students to contribute to these efforts.
OU Dean Faculty of Science, Prof. D Karuna Sagar, ONGC Executive Director and Basin Manager K Karvanan, GSI Southern Region former director V. Ramamurthy, AEG vice president and Department of Geophysics head Prof. B Veeraiah and AEG Secretary Dr. B. Narsimha Rao among other faculty members and students also participated in the event, which will conclude on Friday.
