Hyderabad: TRS leaders and followers of MLC K Kavitha organised a series of programmes across the State in connection with her birthday on Saturday.
Telangana Jagruthi vice-president Meday Rajeev Sagar donated 30 bicycles and half a dozen three-wheeler scooters to girls and specially-abled persons and the State unit of Telangana Jagruthi organised blood donation and free medical health camps. They also planted saplings and distributed food and sarees apart from cutting cakes.
During the celebrations, the party leaders described Kavitha as the epitome of courage and the daughter of Telangana, who brought global fame to the floral festival – Bathukamma.
Earlier in the day, Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali, Musheerabad MLA Muta Gopal, Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) Chairman, Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy and senior TRS leaders participated in the birthday celebrations organised by Telangana Jagruthi. Mahmood Ali recalled the role played by Kavitha during the agitation for Statehood.
As many as 150 people donated blood during the camp conducted on the occasion of the MLC’s birthday. Kavitha planted saplings at Pragathi Bhavan along with her mother Shobha and MP J Santosh Kumar.
The Party’s legislators, chairmen of various corporations and senior leaders participated in the events organised in districts by planting saplings, distributing fruits, organising blood donation camps and cutting cakes.
Meanwhile, a portrait of Kavitha at Ravindra Bharathi drew the attention of many. TRS youth leader P Sai Prasad has roped in artists from Maharashtra for the 60-foot portrait and it took 20 hours for completing it. Using their smartphones, many visitors at Ravindra Bharathi took selfies with the portrait as the backdrop.
