Hyderabad: Following the age-old tradition of offering prayers to Lord Shani on new moon and full moon days, people thronged the Shani Shakti Dham in Mamidipally near here on Saturday, which witnessed a Solar Eclipse and new moon as well.
People from different places visited the world’s biggest Shani statue, which is 20 feet high and chiseled from a single stone. Shani Trayodashi, Shani Amavasya and Shani Jayanti are the most important festivals at the temple. On the occasion of Shani Amavasya, more than 10,000 people took part in puja, havan and thaila abhishekam.
Founder and Peetadhipathi Thakur Surya Prathap Singh told Telangana Today that people from all over reached the temple when they face hardships in life.
“Offering prayers here and pleasing Shani Bhagwan is believed to give devotees success in their life,” he said.
Upa-peetadhipathi Sudheer Singh, Dr Sunil Singh and Dr Shakti Singh also took part in the event. Several locals, especially people from Sangareddy and nearby areas, who strongly believe in the significance of the place, too were present in large numbers.
