Kothagudem: Six cadres of the CPI (Maoist) Party surrendered before Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju and officials of CRPF 81 and 141 Battalions here on Thursday.
One area committee member (ACM), two party members, and three militia members voluntarily decided to abandon the violent path of Naxalism and lead a peaceful life with their families, the SP said.
The surrendered Maoists were reportedly impressed with the welfare measures being implemented for surrendered cadres and the development initiatives for adivasis under the ‘Operation Cheyutha’ programme by Kothagudem police.
As many as 306 Maoists of different ranks have surrendered to the district police so far this year. According to SP Rohith Raju, lower-rank Maoist cadres, unwilling to comply with orders from top leadership, are increasingly choosing to return to their native villages and live peacefully with their families.
“Many cadres have fallen sick and were unable to walk due to lack of food, support, and cooperation from local adivasi communities living in nearby forest areas. It is a positive development that more than 90 percent of the cadres, who were poor tribals, are now considering their families’ welfare and mainstream development,” he said.
The six surrendered Maoist cadres were given instant relief of Rs 25,000 each. The remaining amount will be deposited in their bank accounts via cheque after receiving their Aadhaar cards and bank account details, the SP added.
