Hyderabad: Six TRS candidates have been elected unananimously as members of Telangana State Legislative Council under the MLAs’ quota. Their election was declared formally by the Returning Officer at the State Assembly premises, followed by handing over the election certificates in this regard.
Telangana State Legislative Council former Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, former Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, Rajya Sabha member Banda Prakash, Padi Kaushik Reddy, Thakkellapalli Ravinder Rao and former IAS officer P Venkatrami Reddy, filed their nominations on November 16 as TRS candidates for the biennial elections to six MLC seats under MLAs’ quota.
Considering the strong presence of 103 MLAs from the ruling party in the Assembly, the Opposition parties shied away from contesting the polls. Though two independent candidates filed their nominations, they were rejected during scrutiny a couple of days ago. The six MLC seats under MLAs quota fell vacant on June 3 this year and the elections scheduled to be held in May, were postponed in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking on the occasion, former Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari thanked Chief Minister and TRS President K Chandrashekhar Rao for giving them an opportunity to serve the people of Telangana. They vowed to work for development of the State under the leadership of Chandrashekhar Rao who has been striving to ensure justice for all sections of the society across the State for the last seven years.
He alleged that the BJP-led government at the Centre was creating hurdles for the Telangana government which has recorded a phenomenal growth since the State formation in 2014. Pointing out that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country had declined significantly under the BJP government and recorded a negative growth, he wondered if Prime Minister Narendra Modi was an able leader as was being claimed by the BJP leadership, why did GDP recorded a sudden decline. He made it clear that the paddy procurement is the Union government’s prerogative, but was honouring the same.
Legislative Affairs Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy accompanied the newly elected MLCs Gutha Sukhender Reddy, Kadiyam Srihari, Banda Prakash, Thakkellapalli Ravinder Rao, P Venkatrami Reddy and Padi Kaushik Reddy at the Assembly.
