SKLTSHU plans quality seed initiative for horticulture farmers

Hyderabad: A comprehensive plan to provide quality seeds, crucial for cultivation, to the horticultural farmers and achieve high-quality yields and profits is being formulated, said Dr Danda Rajireddy, Vice Chancellor of Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University (SKLTSHU).
Participating in a meeting, Dr Reddy said the cost of seeds in open-pollinated and hybrid varieties of vegetable crops is very high and urged seed companies and government institutions to move forward with the aim of quality production. He said that efforts will be made to provide seed varieties to farmers soon that can withstand the impending environmental changes and face pest and disease pressure.
National Seeds Association representatives Jagadishwar Reddy and Ramesh Reddy explained the types of vegetable crops that consumers mainly want in the market. Agricultural University’s former research director, Dr T Pradeep, spoke on issues related to quality seed production in vegetable crops.
University Registrar Dr Bhagwan, Director of Research Dr Lakshminarayana, Technical Advisor Dr Sunandini, Vegetable Research Station head Dr Anitha Kumari, Associate Deans Dr Prashanth, Dr Pidigam Saidaiah, Sekhar from Department of Horticulture and scientists Preetham Goud, Nikhil, and Veera Suresh also took part in the event.
