Andhra Pradesh

Global software giant Microsoft, in conjunction with the Higher Education Department of Andhra Pradesh, will soon launch a skilling project to train 1.62 lakh in 40 certification courses under-graduate and post-graduate students and unemployed youth in future-ready technologies.  This is the first-of-its-kind project to be implemented by Microsoft in India, with the add-on benefit of learning Azure and LinkedIn courses to improve employability. The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet gave its approval for the project on which the state government would spend Rs 30.79 crore a year.

The project will be implemented through 300-plus colleges and skill development centres across the state, at the end of which the students will be awarded the certificates upon qualifying in the final examination, official sources said.

Jammu & Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha handed over certificates of individual and community forest rights to the members of tribal communities of Jammu division on Saturday.  Addressing the event, Sinha said a new era of social equality has been ushered in for tribals in the union territory with the handing over of individual and community forest rights certificates to them. He said their participation was significant in the implementation of the Forest Rights Act. We have formulated a robust mechanism to ensure these rights are decided at the grassroots level in consultation with Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and the forest department,” he said. He also lauded the efforts of elected public representatives and the officers of tribal affairs and forest departments.

Himachal Pradesh

President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday hailed Himachal Pradesh’s contribution to armed forces, saying he “salutes the brave soldiers from the state” who are serving the nation. He also said that Major Somnath Sharma from the state was the first recipient of the prestigious Param Vir Chakra.

The president was addressing a special one-hour session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly here to mark the golden jubilee of its statehood.  The hill state attained golden jubilee of its statehood on January 25, 2021, but the special session was delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic. The celebrations will now continue throughout the year.     Kovind noted that as many as 1.20 lakh soldiers from Himachal Pradesh are presently serving the nation.

Madhya Pradesh

Around 50 gaurs (Indian bisons) will be translocated to Madhya Pradesh’s Sanjay Tiger Reserve, which lost its entire population of the animal decades back, from other national parks of the state, forest officials said on Monday.     The Indian bison has been listed as “vulnerable” on the IUCN Red List since 1986.  The decision to translocate bisons to the Sanjay Tiger Reserve in Sidhi district, to rebuild the animal’s population there, was taken in a recent meeting of the State Wildlife Board chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) Alok Kumar said.      He said the Dehradun-based Wildlife Institute of India (WII) has also found the Sanjay Tiger Reserve suitable for the rehabilitation of the gaur, also called as the Indian bison.
