Kothagudem: A mistake of concealing surname by a man before his wedding led to a tragic end to the couple’s wedlock, with his wife committing suicide by consuming pesticide at Yellandu in the district. The man himself, is battling for life after he too consumed pesticide as well as jumped into an agricultural well. His condition is said to be critical.
According to sources, a tribal woman Boda Shweta (21) of Nehru Nagar in Yellandu town and Guguloth Venkatesh (24) of Kattugudem village in Yellandu mandal, were in love with each other and the couple got married about 10 days ago. Soon after the marriage, Shwetha came to know that Venkatesh hid his surname from her and as per the Lambada tradition and because of their respective surnames, they happened to be cousins and their marital relationship was unethical.
For the past few days, Shweta was said to be upset over the mistake she committed and her fallacious relationship with Venkatesh. On Tuesday, she allegedly committed suicide by consuming insecticide at her residence and died.
Venkatesh, worried and panicked at the development also tried to commit suicide by consuming pesticide and jumped into an agricultural well. However, passersby rescued him and he was rushed to a hospital in Khammam for treatment. His condition is said to be critical.
Meanwhile, the outraged family members of Shweta accused Venkatesh of cheating their daughter and tried to attack his house. The local police who learnt about the incident rushed to the spot and brought the situation into control.
