Hyderabad: Surgeons at Aware Gleneagles Global Hospital, LB Nagar saved the life of an 80-year-old patient whose heart functioning had fallen to less than 30 per cent, had only one functional artery and a complete heart block. During the process of treatment, the doctors implanted a pacemaker and also took-up a minimally invasive surgery known as Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA).
Hospital’s senior cardiologist Dr Rajeev Garg and anaesthesiologist, Dr. Sudershan Rao said the patient’s condition was fragile, and they opted to resurrect the heart beat using a temporary pacemaker on an urgent basis. s
“While working on the heart, the patient’s anaemic condition had to be improved, checked for any internal bleeding, to ensure he withstands the procedure,” they said. Following the procedure, the patient was kept under observation for few days and discharged once he was considered healthy to return to his daily routine.
