Suryapet: Police cracked the murder of 60-year-old woman, Chenna Anasuyamma with the arrest of three persons and recovery of jewellery worth Rs 8.60 lakh in Huzurnagar. According to the police, the woman residing alone in Huzurnagar had been helping needy people with hand loans.
One Lingam Satish, who had borrowed Rs 50,000 from the victim, had been meeting her occasionally to pay the interest. Noticing that Anasuyamma lived alone, Satish hatched a plan with his minor nephew to rob and eliminate her.
On the midnight of October 14, the duo approached the elderly woman and gave her a bottle of alcohol. Once she was intoxicated, Satish smothered her by covering her mouth and nose with his hands, while the minor boy firmly held down her legs to prevent any resistance.
Anasuyamma suffocated to death in the struggle. The accused looted gold earrings and nose studs from her ears, along with a gold ring and chain from the pouch around her waist. They also retrieved the Rs 50,000 promissory note—evidence of the loan Satish had taken—from her possession before fleeing the scene.
Satish later showed the stolen items to his wife, Monnika, who advised him to melt the gold jewellery for safety. The couple took the ornaments to Vijayawada, where they were converted into ingots and hidden away.
Acting on the evidence gathered on CCTV footage that captured suspicious movements of the accused near the crime scene, the police swiftly tracked down the trio. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the murder and robbery.
All three were arrested and produced in court for judicial remand. The Suryapet Superintendent of police, Narasimha Rao commended the investigating team for their prompt action, rewarding Huzurnagar Circle Inspector Chalamandaraaju, and constables D. Nagaraju and G. Shambayya for their role in solving the case.
