CPI (Maoist) militia deputy commander Karam Sammaiah, was arrested during vehicle inspections by Cherla police, special party and CRPF 141 Bn personnel.
The area falls under naxal-affected Pamed police station limits in Usur block of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh. As Pamed is located at a distance of 110 km from Bijapur, adivasis visit Cherla for their daily needs and depend on hospitals in Cherla for medical treatment.
The police used dog squads to identify narcotic substances. They also checked vehicles and TSRTC buses to prevent smuggling of liquor, unaccounted cash and ganja.
According to the police, the officer, Sheshagiri, suffered a bullet injury on his chest. The incident occurred when he was returning to the CRPF camp at Pusuguppa from a village visit.
In addition to the regular maintenance works, the NDSA team that visited the project some time ago, had also identified certain shortcomings in the maintenance.
