Hyderabad traffic police booked 403 drivers during a special night drive on Saturday. Most offenders were two-wheeler riders, and nine drivers recorded very high alcohol levels. All those caught will have to appear before the court.
A 32-year-old man died by suicide after setting himself ablaze outside the Kushaiguda Traffic Police Station in Hyderabad. He was reportedly distressed after being booked in a recent drunk driving case. Police have begun an investigation.
A policeman stopped a school bus after finding it swerving. On checking, the driver was found to be drunk. The bus was seized and the children sent home in another bus in Kalyan of Thane.
However, a few serious accidents involving drunk drivers contradict the police claims of strict enforcement and awareness. In April, a drunk driver killed a man and injured 11 persons at Raidurgam.
