INCOIS has released a specialised El Niño bulletin warning of above-normal Indian Ocean temperatures until 2027. The developing climate event could trigger coral bleaching, marine heatwaves, reduced fish catches, and increased coastal erosion on India's east coast while benefiting maritime operations on the west coast.
INCOIS has received the Subhas Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar 2025 for its vital role in ocean-related disaster warnings. The organisation provides crucial early alerts and advisories, strengthening India’s disaster preparedness and response systems.
On its Foundation Day, INCOIS will launch three new ocean information services, including a jellyfish tracking portal, an upgraded Samudra 2.0 app and a coastal flood warning system, alongside signing key collaboration agreements.
INCOIS, under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), forecast the possibility of swell surges and rough sea conditions associated with the effect of high period swell waves that were approaching from distant southern Indian Ocean.
