Neglect and garbage dumping have turned the historic Katora Houz near Golconda Fort into a cesspool. Hyderabad-based NGO SAHE, with support from HYDRAA and archaeology officials, has initiated efforts to restore and protect the centuries-old water body.

Referring to a news article, the Bench noted that the tank, which was once an important source of water, is now full of garbage and has no water left.

While GHMC is looking after cleaning the tank, HMDA has provided necessary machinery required for clearing the weed and hyacinth

The GHMC had planned to clean up Katora Houz last year but the plans to start works were hampered due to Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the police, nearly a dozen vehicles were damaged after a portion of the road abutting the Katora Houz caved in during the heavy downpour.
