The Centre has sanctioned four new Kendriya Vidyalayas for Telangana following efforts by former Khammam MP Nama Nageswara Rao. The schools will come up in Kothagudem, Mulugu, Wanaparthy, and Jagtial, raising the state’s KV count to 39.

The Union Cabinet has approved 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas across 17 states and UTs, benefiting over 86,000 students. These KVs, costing Rs 5,862 crore, include Balvatikas and will create over 4,600 jobs, focusing on underserved and strategic regions

Fresh enrolments in Kendriya Vidyalayas dropped to 1.39 lakh in 2024-25, the lowest in five years, according to data shared by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in Lok Sabha. There are currently 1,280 KVs functioning across the country

Dr. Shweta Tyagi, Staff Scientist and Head of the Laboratory of Cell Cycle Regulation at CDFD, chaired the event and introduced the guest speaker, Dr. Chandana Basu, an Early Career Fellow with DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance and co-founder of GENETIKS4U.

For the Class XII examinations, a total of 8,337 students, i.e., 4,433 boys and 3,904 girls, appeared of whom 8,266 students were declared as pass. The pass percentage among boys from the State was 98.85 while it was 99.49 among the girls.

Interestingly, the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh has been sanctioned eight KVs while three KVs were approved for Gujarat.

MoS for Education informed Parliament last July that there were 602 teaching staff vacancies in the State as of June 30, 2022.
