The auction of Azam Jahi Mill lands in Warangal on Friday triggered high drama as labour unions opposed the Congress government's move, citing violation of a Supreme Court order.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) concluded its latest land auction phase with the sale of the Golden Mile site. COEUS Education Management Pvt. Ltd. acquired the 1.98-acre parcel at Rs 77.75 crore an acre.

The HMDA’s recent land auction aimed at boosting state revenue saw a dismal turnout, with only three of 93 plots sold. Despite high expectations of earning Rs. 500 crore, the auction was marred by steep upset prices and rigid terms, deterring potential bidders.

Say the auction would impact students and future expansion of the central university, besides affecting biodiversity

Reacting to a post on X, the Congress MP said: “Unfortunately the ‘State / Government/ Authority’ behaves the same no matter where or who is in charge!”

While eight excavators were brought in at the UoH east campus on Sunday afternoon, their numbers were increased to 40 in the night to speed up the works, including removal of trees, plants and leveling the land

The upset price per acre is fixed at Rs.25 crore and the increment bid is Rs.20 lakh in the bidding process.

On behalf of the State government, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is auctioning eight plots covering 49.92 acres in Kokapet.

The e-auction is being done by MSTC Limited, a Central Public Sector Enterprise offering e-commerce services.
