Claiming that Congress government has been indulging in two years of relentless exploitation, he said: "In August, 2023, the milk price was hiked by Rs 3 per litre, in June, 2024, a hike of Rs 2 was made and now in March, 2025, a hike of Rs 4 has been introduced."
Speaking to reporters at Telangana Bhavan, Rama Rao described the nine proposals put forth by the discoms as highly detrimental to both domestic and industrial consumers. He highlighted that the discoms plan to raise fixed charges for households consuming more than 300 units per month from Rs. 10 to Rs. 50. "This isn’t just a tariff hike; it will push ordinary families into financial distress due to rising power consumption," he warned.
Rama Rao pointed out that within less than a year of taking office, the Congress administration is ready to increase power tariffs, imposing further strain on the public.
At present, a fixed charge of Rs.10 per kilowatt is charged if the electricity used by households exceeds 300 units per month. The discoms have asked to be allowed to raise it to Rs.50. For HT consumers, the discoms have asked to increase the fixed charge of Rs. 475 per kilowatt to Rs. 500 from the industries.
