Smith, who was batting on 130 and was in a mood to slog every ball in company of No.11 batsman Josh Hazlewood, couldn't beat a direct throw from Jadeja
After missing the first Test due to concussion he suffered in the T20 match earlier, he returned to score a fine half-century and picked up wickets playing his role to perfection.
India's win was built on a first-innings century by stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane on their way to 326 in reply to Australia's 195, with young debutant Shubman Gill also excelling with the bat.
Rahane came to the crease with his team in trouble early in the day after two wickets fell in quick succession, but rode his luck to notch a 12th Test ton

After having stitched a match-winning partnership with Hardik Pandya in the third ODI, he came out all guns blazing in the first T20 smashing an unbeaten 44 in just 23 balls.
Credit was also due to the lion-hearted effort from debutant Thangarasu Natarajan (3/30) and off-spinner Washington Sundar (0/16 in 4 overs), who bowled well in Powerplay
