Hyderabad: Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav has ridiculed the decision of the Congress party to allot 50 per cent of seats to BCs in the ensuing GHMC elections, stating that it was the TRS that launched several programmes for the welfare of BCs in the State under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
Addressing a press conference at the TRS Legislature Party office here on Thursday, he said it has become a habit for the Congress to release election time manifestos and forget them comfortably immediately after the elections. “By declaring that that they would move the High Court about BC reservations, Congress has invariably agreed that it can’t win the GHMC elections. Will the party that witnessed several intra party fights seeking level playing field for BCs in Congress provide social justice?” he asked. He alleged that Congress had always encouraged a particular community neglecting the BCs who were in large numbers when the State was under Congress rule in united Andhra Pradesh.
He reminded everyone that it was TRS that had nominated BCs even in general category seats in the local body elections. “TRS has implemented several programmes that were not even mentioned in party manifesto such as sheep for Golla Kuruma community with 75 per cent subsidy,” he said. He said that beneficiaries from the BC community benefited from Kalyana Lakshmi, Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima schemes also’ he said. He said that the State Assembly has already adopted a resolution seeking 50 per cent reservations to backward classes in the State.
“In all 35 lakh Golla Kurumas benefitted from the scheme launched by the Chief Minister. It was his brain child. While few cabinet members suggested a 20 per cent subsidy it was the Chief Minister who suggested a higher amount of concession for the BCs. The government borrowed Rs 4,000 crore from the National Dairy Development Board to fund the project,” he said. Agreeing that there were teething troubles while implementing the project, he said that very soon all those 28,000 people that have submitted Demand Drafts for sheep will be provided.
He attributed the delay in the distribution of subsidy sheep was because of tight financial situation because of prolonged lockdown. “Garnering and spending Rs 10,000 crore is not an easy task. But the TRS government is fully geared up to keep its word,” he said. He said that the number of sheep in the State which were 70 lakh few years ago have crossed the 2 crore mark.
Answering a question on the possible outcome of Dubbak by election, the Minister said that the TRS candidate is winning the election with a good majority. “Winner will be allowed to enter the Assembly even if he or she wins the election by a margin of one vote,” he said in a lighter vein. He then criticised BJP for neglecting the State which was ravaged by the recent rains. “The Prime Minister whose heart bleeds for Gujarat, didn’t even announce a single rupee under the disaster relief fund,” he said. He also condemned BJPs’ promise to Bihar voters that it would provide them with free Covid-19 vaccine.
Taking objection to the foul language used by BJP leaders including BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind, against the Chief Minister, the Minister said that TRS will be forced to pay BJP in the same coin.
