Former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan suffered her seventh consecutive electoral defeat, losing the Mylapore constituency in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Despite a long political career, she has been unable to secure a win in multiple contests over the years.
Hyderabad: Former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan lost yet another election battle and registered a consecutive seventh loss in her political career. She lost to TVK candidate P Venkataramanan from Mylapore constituency in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections for which results were declared on Monday.
After being appointed as the Telangana Governor in 2019, she also served as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry (Additional charge). However, she resigned in May 2024. Infact, she was appointed as the Telangana Governor within four months after losing the Lok Sabha elections from Thoothukkudi constituency to DMK’s Kanimozhi Karunanidhi in 2019.
But, during her stint as the Telangana Governor, she hit headlines for disagreements with the BRS government over different issues. She had even charged that the BRS government had not followed protocol and discriminated as she was a woman.
Verbal allegations apart, she faced the charges of non-cooperation on legislative bills passed in the Assembly, forcing the BRS government to approach the Supreme Court. Tamilisai Soundarajan had also hit headlines when she had rejected the BRS government’s MLC nominations of Dasoju Sravan and K Satyanarayana under the Governor’s quota.
Despite being a seasoned politician and contesting different elections, Tamilisai Soundarajan however could not achieve success even in seven attempts, including the 2026 assembly elections.
She contested in 2006 assembly elections from Radhapuram constituency but had lost. This was followed with defeats in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from Chennai North constituency, Velachery assembly elections in 2011, Virugampakkam assembly elections in 2016, Thoothukkudi Lok Sabha elections in 2019 and Chennai South Lok Sabha elections 2024. The latest defeat she suffered is from Mylapore constituency in the 2026 assembly elections.
