Taslima Nasreen asks for revival of her Facebook account, after it is ‘memorialized’ believing she is dead

Hyderabad: Controversial Bangladeshi-Swedish writer Taslima Nasreen found herself in a rather exasperating situation on Tuesday when Facebook ‘memorialised’ her account, apparently believing that she is no more.

A memorialized account on Facebook means, the person who started the account is dead and the ‘memorialized account’ is a place for friends and family to gather and share memories after a person has passed away.

An infuriated author, who continues to face religious fundamentalists while living in exile in India, used Twitter to express her woes “Facebook. I am very much alive. But you memorialized my facebook account. What a sad news! How could you do that? Please give me back my account”.

In another tweet earlier, she said “#Facebook killed me. I am alive. Not even sick or bedridden or hospitalized. But facebook memorialized my facebook account:.

However, there was no response from Facebook and her wall on the site continued to display the message on it being a memorialized account.

Facebook provides an opportunity for the friends and relatives of the Facebook account holder to memorialise the account after death of the person. An established close friend or a family member must alert Facebook. Once memorialized, the account can not be logged into by anyone.

The 60-year-old Bangladeshi writer has been banished from her country and had lived in Sweden, Germany, France and the United States before moving back to India. Her controversial writings have offended many and religious fundamentalists have been hounding her.

Apparently, someone claiming to be a friend or a family member of Taslima Nasreen might have written to Facebook claiming that she is no more and Facebook had ‘memorialised’ her account.
