Technical snag interrupts power supply in Nalgonda
As the power supply got disrupted, the rumour mongers started spreading false news attributing the power cut to the protests by the electricity employees against the high-handedness of the police
Nalgonda: Power supply was interrupted in several parts of Nalgonda town for three hours from 9 am to 12 noon on Saturday due to technical problems, giving a tough time to the citizens.
While many people were on the spree spreading the rumours, attributing the power cut to protests by the employees of the electricity department against the high-handedness of the police action on these people for attending duties during the lockdown period, the officials of both the electricity and the police departments rubbished these claims.
It all started when the police personnel had beaten up the linemen in Nalgonda town and also at Kattangur when the latter were going to attend their duty on Saturday. As the power supply got disrupted, the rumour mongers started spreading false news attributing the power cut to the protests by the electricity employees against the high-handedness of the police. Adding fuel to the fire, visuals of the policemen beating up the motorists at the Clock Tower Centre in Nalgonda town became viral on the social media.
Learning about the incident, Superintendent of Police AV Ranganath swung into action and spoke to the officials of the electricity department who informed him about the technical snag which resulted in the disruption of power supply. He also spoke to TS Transco Chairman and Managing Director D Prabhakar Rao and assured him of taking action against the police personnel who have beaten up the linemen of the electricity department at different places in the district. He said that the employees of the electricity department should carry their identity card while coming out during lockdown town.
Telangana Electricity Employees Association (TEEA) took up the issue with SP AV Ranganath for necessary action against the police personnel for their unruly behaviour. “There is no truth in the rumours. We have only lodged a complaint with the police authorities, but did not launch any protest. There was a disruption in power supply due to technical issues and it was not intentional,” TEEA district president Vinod Chowdari told Telangana Today.
Lab Technicians allege police high-handedness
The lab technicians association also alleged that the police have indiscriminately beaten the lab technicians, who were going to collect blood samples of the patients from the hospitals. The association members also submitted a memorandum to Neelagiri Unit president of Indian Medical Association (IMA) to represent the Superintendent of Police for exemption to the staff of diagnostic labs from the lockdown.
