Hyderabad: Tehreek Muslim Shabban (TMS) president Mohammed Mushtaq Malik, along with religious leaders and scholars, on Monday demanded complete transparency and public disclosure of the income and expenditure of the Telangana Waqf Board.
Mushtaq Malik on Monday said the State government and Waqf authorities frequently highlight the enormous value of Waqf properties in the State, but the Muslim community has the right to know how much income is being generated, where it is being spent, and how much remains with the Board.
He said Waqf properties are an Amanat (entrusted property) of the community and their income should be used strictly for the purposes for which the Waqf was created, particularly education, assistance to widows and destitute families, healthcare and other welfare activities.
Expressing concern over what he alleged was the failure to hold regular Waqf Board meetings for more than two years, Mushtaq Malik sought details of the last properly conducted meeting, pending files and major property matters, and decisions taken on Waqf properties and their income.
He demanded year-wise and property-wise income and expenditure statements, including details of spending on welfare, maintenance of mosques and dargahs, protection of properties, salaries and administrative expenses.
Mushtaq Malik also sought clarification on reports concerning valuable Waqf lands, including Alwar/Jamia Nizamia-related property and around 1,600 acres described as Waqf land. He demanded disclosure of survey numbers, ownership records, legal status, and any proposed sale, auction or transfer.
He questioned the silence of AIMIM MPs, MLAs and Waqf representatives and urged them to publicly state their position.
Mushtaq Malik demanded audited accounts, regular Board meetings, publication of minutes and resolutions, a public list of major Waqf properties and a transparent inquiry into any proposed disposal or commercial use of Waqf lands.
