Telangana: 27 Cyber mules held in interstate operations

Hyderabad: In an interstate operation, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGSCB) apprehended 27 persons who were facilitating cyber fraudsters by opening and sharing bank account details and helping in transfer of money belonging to victims of cyber frauds.

Director, TGSCB, Shikha Goel, said in an operation lasting for over a fortnight, four teams of the TGSCB with assistance of the Rajasthan police raided several places and caught 27 persons.


“These 27 persons are involved in over 2200 cyber-crime cases registered across the country amounting to a loss of Rs. 11.1 crores to the victims. In Telangana alone, they were involved in 189 cases amounting to with total loss of Rs. 9 crores to the victims,” said Shikha Goel.

The teams had collected data of over 100 persons who were from Rajasthan and helping the cyber fraudsters.

“On specific information, collected by technical teams in Hyderabad, the field teams raided the houses and nabbed the persons. The cyber fraudsters were paying the bank account holders a certain percentage of commission on every transaction,” the official explained.

Among those arrested are businessmen, contractor, student, and people working in private sector.

The Director, TGSCB said they are investigating the cases and if the complicity of the bank managers is found, legal action will be initiated against them. “We will be conducting more such interstate operations. A zero tolerance policy is maintained against the cyber fraudsters,” said Shikha Goel.

The police seized 31 mobile phones, 37 SIM cards, 13 ATM cards, 7 cheque books and 2 hard disks from them. The persons were brought on transit warrant from Rajasthan and produced in local court in the city. All of them were remanded.
