Hyderabad: The State government will take up construction of four lakh double bedroom houses under the newly proposed scheme in the next financial year. About Rs 3 lakh will be provided to each beneficiary having a house plot, for construction of the house under Dignity Housing scheme. This will be in addition to the houses being constructed by the State government, announced Roads and Buildings Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy.

Currently, the State government is constructing the double bedroom houses at a cost of Rs 5.04 lakh in rural areas and Rs 7 lakh in urban areas as against Rs 72,000 and Rs 1.5 lakh respectively being provided by the Centre under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. While the State government spent Rs 10,073 crore for double bedroom houses, the Centre contributed only Rs 1,311 crore.

Addressing the Assembly on Monday, the Minister said the government took up construction of the Secretariat, the Martyrs Memorial, statue of Dr BR Ambedkar and government medical colleges in all the districts prestigiously. The development of a 7,360 km road was taken up at an expenditure of Rs 13,000 crore in last six years which was unprecedented in the previous six decades. Similarly, the construction of 560 bridges and 34 road-over-bridges were taken up.

The Roads and Buildings department also took up construction of integrated collectorate complexes as well as the prestigious State Secretariat complex. So far, about eight floors have been constructed and the remaining works are progressing rapidly. Further, the construction of MLA camp office was taken up at a cost of Rs 166 crore in all the Assembly constituencies. “We completed the works pertaining to Kalyana Katta and Pushkarini at Yadadri temple. The department will deliver five nursing colleges, eight medical colleges, four multi-specialty hospitals and a super specialty hospital in Warangal at a total cost of Rs 1,500 crore,” Prashanth Reddy added.
