Hyderabad: The number of students turning up for regular classes in schools in Telangana is improving each passing day. This is evident from the daily attendance being recorded in different schools.
A total of 35.83 per cent out of 53,34,630 students attended regular classes in 36,869 schools under different managements on Wednesday as against 31.12 per cent the previous day and 21.77 per cent on the first day of schools reopening on September 1.
According to an attendance report released by the School Education Department, government schools were seeing a higher turnout in comparison with private aided and unaided schools. The 26,285 government, local body and Model Schools recorded 50.95 per cent attendance out of 20,39,274 students on Wednesday. In fact, attendance in government institutions has gone up from 42.05 per cent on Tuesday to 50.95 per cent on Wednesday.
On the other hand, 9,980 private unaided schools logged 26.52 per cent attendance out of 32,12,683 students on Wednesday. Similarly, out of 82,673 students in 604 aided schools, 24.43 per cent marked their attendance.
Among 33 districts, at 50.60 per cent, the highest turnout was recorded in 1,286 schools of Bhadradri-Kothagudem district while 1,948 schools in Medchal-Malkajgiri district registered the lowest turnout with 23.47 per cent on Wednesday.
Although the State government had given its nod for the reopening of all educational institutions from September 1, some private schools were yet to reopen. While there were a total of 10,816 private unaided schools in the State, 9,980 have reopened for regular classes. Likewise, out of 668 private aided schools, 604 have reopened. However, all 26,285 government, local body and model school have opened for regular classes.
The department in its SOP issued on Tuesday for reopening of schools has said school managements should not compel any student to physically attend offline classes if the parent was not inclined to send the child. Students willing to study from home should be allowed to do so. Managements were also directed not to impose a penalty if a child did not attend a school or offline classes.
Students, teaching and non-teaching staff attending the schools must wear masks, sanitise or wash hands regularly besides maintaining a physical distance.
