Hyderabad: The distribution of liposomal Amphotericin B for treatment of mucormycosis will be made available to patients admitted in the hospitals only after the recommendation of the government committee.

The Drug Control Administration (DCA) has instructed pharma companies involved in the manufacture of the drug to supply directly to their stockists and share their details and quantity of the drug supplied.

The drug supplied to the stockists in turn will be issued based on recommendations of government committee to the hospitals where the patients are admitted. Stockist cannot issue single vials to hospitals and patients directly without recommendation of the committee. Any deviation in this regard will be viewed seriously, DCA Director Preeti Meena said.

To ensure rational use of the drug, the State government had constituted a committee headed by Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr K Ramesh Reddy which will review the medical condition of each patient and release the drug accordingly.

Another drug related to Covid treatment, Tocilizumab injection is also issued directly to the hospitals where the patient is receiving treatment, by the committee of experts.
