Former Minister T Harish Rao addressing the BRS cadre in Siddipet, on Friday.
Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior BRS legislator T Harish Rao charged the Congress government in Telangana, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, with abandoning constitutional values, violating its manifesto promises, and unleashing bulldozer politics in the State. He suggested that the Congress practice what it preaches.
In a strongly worded open letter to Congress Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday, Harish reminded him of the Congress party’s public commitment to automatic disqualification of defected MLAs, citing its 2024 election manifesto.
“Your Chief Minister facilitated the defection of 10 BRS MLAs, blatantly contradicting your stated position and in a clear violation of the principles you and your party claim to uphold,” he said.
The BRS legislator lashed out at Revanth Reddy’s controversial comments on the judiciary, stating that even the Supreme Court had to intervene, finding fault with the Chief Minister’s conduct.
He said while Rahul Gandhi speaks against bulldozer politics, his party government in Telangana razed homes of the poor in the name of urban projects – the HYDRAA and Musi River Development Project.
Harish also criticised the police crackdown at the University of Hyderabad (UoH), where students and professors faced brutal action during environmental protests.
“Even NSUI affiliated to the Congress condemned it, but your party itself didn’t utter a word,” he said. He blamed Rahul Gandhi for abandoning students whom he once pledged to support during his 2016 visit to the UoH campus during protests over Rohith Vemula’s death.
Further, the former Minister slammed the Congress government for inviting crony capitalism into Telangana.
He pointed to alleged police excesses against tribal farmers in Lagacherla protesting against the pharma village project, and to land acquisition for an Adani cement plant in Nalgonda district.
“While you attack Adani nationally, your Chief Minister is handing him Telangana on a platter,” he said.
Harish questioned the ideological coherence of the Congress. “While you fight Prime Minister Modi, your Chief Minister calls him ‘Bade Bhai’. Is this happening with your blessing, or are you deliberately silent?” he asked.
Urging Rahul Gandhi to “practice what you preach,” he wanted the Congress high command to rein in its State leadership and uphold the values it claims to represent.
