Hyderabad: Reiterating the need to draft a new Constitution, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao said the idea was to ensure equal rights to dalits, equal rights to women in property, introduction of Dalit Bandhu across the nation and oppose Centre’s undemocratic rule.

If Dalits are getting empowered, then where is the need for Telangana to introduce Dalit Bandhu and ensure their prosperity? We have to progress and develop like China and to achieve all these, we need to draft a new Constitution,” the Chief Minister reasoned.

“Dr Ambedkar himself had urged for implementation of the Constitution in true spirit. But is this being done?” Chandrashekhar Rao asked, adding that in Gujarat, bridegrooms from Dalit community are not permitted to ride horses during marriage ceremony.

Dalits constitute 19 per cent of the population and there was a need to extend 19 per cent reservations to the community, he said, and pointed out that instead of encouraging them, the Centre had even abolished the SC sub plan.

Speaking about the vast disparities in the country, the Chief Minister said 77 per cent wealth of the wealth was in the hands of 10 per cent people. “While, international goods train average speed was 115 kmph, India’s goods train average speed was 55 kpmh. Similarly, international trucks average speed was 105 kmph, India’s trucks average speed was ranged between 48 to 55 kmph, he said.

“India should develop on par with China in all sectors. The Centre is usurping the States’ Constitutional rights and benefits. To oppose these undemocratic moves and to ensure development, there is a need for a new Constitution,” Chandrashekhar Rao stressed.
