Telangana contract professors demand regularisation, UGC pay scale
Over 1,200 contract assistant professors from Telangana universities have demanded job security, equal pay for equal work, and UGC pay scales in line with Supreme Court judgments. At a round-table meeting, faculty leaders called for regularisation of contract staff across 12 universities.

Hyderabad: Over 1,200 assistant professors on contract with the Telangana universities on Saturday demanded the State government provide them job security, implement equal pay for equal work and UGC pay scales as per the Supreme Court judgments.
During a round-table organised here, Telangana Universities Contract Assistant Professors JAC president Dr. Parshuram, along with other teachers, who released a pamphlet detailing demands, urged the government to regularise or absorb the contract faculty working in all 12 universities.
The teachers sought exclusion of posts equal to the number of contract faculty from direct recruitment, with recruitment to be carried out only for the remaining posts.
Apart from demanding 180 days of paid maternity leave and five days of special leave to women contract faculty, the contract assistant professors sought implementation of medical leave and 20 days of casual leave.
A 12-month salary, retirement benefit of Rs. 25 lakh, issuance of health cards, conversion of all self-finance and non-budget courses in the universities into regular courses, and salaries payment by the universities instead of colleges were among demands raised by the teachers.
Participating in the meeting, social activist Prof G Haragopal said the government should provide job security to universities’ contract teachers, while Telangana Education Commission member Prof. PL Vishweswar Rao mentioned that
The Commission had submitted a comprehensive report regarding these issues pertaining to the universities to the government.
